Stacy Nowicki, Library Director
I have been Library Director at the Kalamazoo College Library since 2006, where I am a guest on traditional, unceded Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi land. I came to Kalamazoo College as Reference Librarian in 2000. I earned a BA in music history and theory from Oberlin College, an MLIS from Dominican University, and an MM from Northwestern University. I later earned a PhD in information science from Nova Southeastern University studying student research behaviors and a JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. I am a past chair of the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees and a member of the Kalamazoo Humane Society board of directors. I love animals and have been a therapy dog handler with my (now retired) therapy dog Jake.

Circulation and Reserves
Hillary Berry, Circulation Supervisor
I joined the K Library staff in 2017, after spending eleven years working in public libraries. I have an MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh and a BA in Public History from Western Michigan University. At the circulation desk, I can help you locate items in the library, request items through MeLCat, and set up your course reserves. The best part of my job is working with student employees and seeing them grow into leaders. When I’m not in the library, I’m usually trying to lift heavy things in the gym, improvising new recipes in the kitchen with my partner, or walking around outside listening to podcasts.
Angela Batts, Circulation Assistant
I’ve been one of the weekend circulation assistants since 2019. I earned my MLIS from Wayne State University and my BA in History from Aquinas College. I’m more than happy to help with any of your research quandaries, but if you’re in particular need of citation assistance, I’ve got your back. Outside of the library my interests include: walking, animal welfare, genealogy, Roman history, and comedy specials.
Peter Butts, Circulation Assistant
I began working as a weekend circulation supervisor at K in 2009. During that time I have scanned and cataloged over 2600 SIPs. My day job is as a library media specialist for Portage Public Schools. After getting my BA in English at U of M, I escaped Ann Arbor and ended up getting my Master of Library Science at Wayne State in 1987. Favorite Interests: Canadian Fiction, East Asian History, Children’s and Young Adult Literature, Bagpipes, Grateful Dead, and Web Design.
Riley Jin, Circulation Assistant
This is my first year at K as a weekend circulation assistant and I’m super excited to be here! I recently received my BA in Creative Writing at Knox College and on weekdays I work at the Antwerp Sunshine Library in Mattawan. If there’s anything you need I’m happy to help! When I’m not in the library I like: writing poetry, riding my bike around town, watching Law and Order: SVU, and learning Japanese.
Carol Passage, Circulation Assistant
Leslie Burke, Collection Services Librarian
I joined K’s library in January 2012, after a stint working for EBSCO, and an ecumenical trek through various libraries in Grand Rapids. I started my Master’s in Library Science at WMU, but when they dropped their program, I finished my degree at University of Michigan. Since I love variety, being Collection Services Librarian allows me to wear many different hats serving the K community. My job is to ensure that K has the best collection we can afford and to make it all as findable as possible. In my free time, I love doing genealogy, reading, and traveling. Unlike many librarians, I am dog lover, especially bigger dogs, although I am currently dog-less.
Maddie Stap, Document Delivery Specialist
I joined the Library staff as the Document Delivery Specialist in 2021 and am happy to assist with all of your Interlibrary Loan needs. I hold a BA in Holocaust Studies and Religious Studies from Albion College and have spent my prior professional years working at the Kalamazoo Public Library, here at K in the Office of Alumni Engagement, and at Facing History and Ourselves, a social justice non-profit in Chicago. I love K and am thrilled to be back on campus to help students, faculty, and staff access all of the amazing resources available to them through the Library. Outside of work I enjoy traveling, camping, doing outdoorsy stuff, reading, baking, and having everyday adventures with my husband and three awesome daughters.
Reference and Instruction
I joined Robin as Reference and Instruction Librarian at K in 2018. I’m originally from a small town in Indiana and have lived all over (Tokyo, NYC, Cincinnati!) before finally finding my forever home in Kalamazoo. My Master’s in Library Science comes from Queens College. I love working with students at all stages of the research process—even citation! When not at work I can usually be found at my boys sporting/musical/theatrical events or on my couch with a cup of tea and my ancient kitty curled on my lap.
I have worked as a Reference and Instruction Librarian at K since 1999. Kalamazoo is my home town. I am a K alum and received my Master’s of Library and Information Science from the University of Michigan. I love diving into research questions and helping students find information.
Favorite Interests: Cats, Mid Century Design, Stationary and Office Supplies.
