What to Expect and Requirements

What to Expect in Usability Testing

Usability testing is a research technique to evaluate the functionality of a product (in this case the Library website) by observing real users as they attempt to complete tasks. The goals of this round of testing is to both identify any problems within the new design of the Library website and uncover opportunities to improve.

For our testers it’s a pretty simple process—within a 30-45 minute recorded meeting on Teams, tell us what you think while completing a handful of tasks. It’s really that easy!

Tester Requirements/Commitment

  • Although testing is typically done within 30-45 minutes, by signing up you will be committing to providing 1 full hour of your time as this will compensate for troubleshooting technical issues and/or collecting feedback.
  • Have access to a desktop or laptop with a working microphone and webcam.
Note: if you do not have direct access to this technology, but would like to participate, the Library staff can reserve the audio/studio lab on the first floor for you.
  • Provide consent for the testing session to be recorded in the usability testing volunteer form.
