Feedback from Faculty Communication Survey

Picture of thumbs up and thumbs down within talk bubbles

The Library recently implemented a faculty communication survey. Given the feedback, here are some things we are doing:

  • The Library will communicate with faculty through direct email, posting information on our website, and meeting one on one or with departments any time.
  • Faculty will receive a courtesy notice three days before an item is due, and reminders when the item is 7, 14, and 21 days overdue. The faculty loan period for books is six months with three renewals (total of two  years).
  • The new OneSearch does work differently than the old one. Librarians are always available to help you find what you need! Call, email, stop by the library, or we can stop by your office, too.
  • You can find a link to Online Journals at K(OJK) under Library >Research Tools. This links to both our online and print holdings. If we don’t have access to an article, OJK will link you to Interlibrary Loan so you can request it.
  • Our new system will notify faculty through email when an item you requested for purchase is available. If you have suggestions for purchases, please let us know! You can contact Leslie Burke directly (leslie.burke@kzoo.edu), or suggest a purchase through our website.
  • We are working on a way new acquisitions will be featured on our website.
  • We will be starting a Library Liaison program, where faculty departments are assigned to a librarian who can be your point of contact.  Of course, you can always contact any of us, but this will ensure that there is one person looking out for you. And we are always available to visit you personally in your office – just contact us and ask!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your investment in the success of your Library!

MeLCat is Back!

Stacks of MeLCat materials going to other libraries, January 2019

The Library is happy to announce that we are back up and running on MeLCat!

To request materials through MeLCat, search for the item you want in the MeLCat catalog. Click the “Get this…” button, then choose Kalamazoo College as the library card you want to use. Type in your name and 14 digit Kalamazoo College barcode number on your college ID (the number starts with 250170…). If you don’t know your barcode number, you can look it up in your Library OneSearch account under the “Blocks + Messages” area. The library can also look it up for you. Contact us at library@kzoo.edu or 269-337-7153.

Your MeLCat materials will arrive at the Kalamazoo College Library circulation desk, and you will receive an email when they are ready to be picked up. You should return your MeLCat materials at the circulation desk as well. Materials are checked out through MeLCat for three weeks with one renewal. You will be able to see your MeLCat items in your Library OneSearch account.

Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff may also use their Kalamazoo College ID to check out materials at other libraries that participate in MeLCat’s Visiting Patron service.

Welcome to the new Library Website!

The library staff have made major accomplishments this summer, including a new back-end library system, improved OneSearch, new Interlibrary Loan system, and a new website!  Library staff are working on getting MeLCat up and running. (In the meantime, please use our *new* Interlibrary Loan system to request books and articles not owned by the K Library. You may use MeLCat through your own public library, including the Kalamazoo Public Library, with a library card.)      We are excited that these improvements will better serve your research needs. If you have questions, please contact library@kzoo.edu.
